Meta is changing WhatsApp Business Platform pricing from October 1, 2026. Here’s everything Wabotick users need to know about Service Messages, Utility Templates, the 1,000 free monthly messages, and how billing will work.
If you use WhatsApp for customer support, automation, order updates, or bot conversations, there is an important WhatsApp pricing update coming your way.
Meta announced that starting October 1, 2026, certain messages sent within the WhatsApp customer service window will no longer remain completely free.
The good news is that Meta will provide 1,000 free Service Messages per month for each WhatsApp Business phone number.
Here’s a simple breakdown.
What is changing in WhatsApp pricing?
Currently, businesses can respond to customers within the 24-hour customer service window using:
- Free-form messages from Inbox
- Agent/Team member/User/Human replies
- AI Agent replies
- Bot replies
- Service messages
- Utility templates
These messages have different pricing rules today.
From October 1, 2026, Meta will introduce charges for Service Messages and Utility Templates sent within an open 24-hour customer service window.
WhatsApp Pricing: Current vs October 2026
| Message Type | Currently | From October 1, 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Free-form / Service Message | 🟢 Free | 🟢 First 1,000/month free |
| Service Message after 1,000 | 🟢 Free | 💰 Charged at applicable Utility rate |
| Utility Template inside 24-hour window | 🟢 Free | 💰 Charged at applicable Utility rate |
| Utility Template outside 24-hour window | 💰 Utility rate | 💰 Utility rate |
| Customer’s incoming message | 🟢 Free | 🟢 Free |
Important: The 1,000 free monthly messages apply to Service Messages. Utility Templates sent inside the 24-hour window will be charged according to Meta's applicable Utility rate and do not consume the 1,000 free Service Message allowance.
What are Service Messages?
Service Messages are the messages your business sends as part of an ongoing customer conversation.
For example:
Customer:
“Where is my order?”
Your team/chatbot/ai :
“Your order has been shipped and will arrive tomorrow.”
Messages like these can be sent as free-form replies while the customer service window is open.
From October 1, 2026, Meta will apply the new Service Message pricing rules.
What are the 1,000 free Service Messages?
Meta will provide every WhatsApp Business phone number with:
🎁 1,000 free Service Messages every month
The allowance:
- Applies per WhatsApp Business phone number
- Resets every month
- Does not carry forward
- Applies to Service Messages
- Once the allowance is exhausted, additional Service Messages are charged at the applicable Utility rate
This means businesses with lower customer-support message volumes may be able to continue sending a significant number of Service Messages without additional Meta charges.
What happens after 1,000 Service Messages?
Once your business phone number crosses the monthly allowance of 1,000 Service Messages, additional Service Messages will be charged according to the Utility message rate for the customer’s country.
For example, if your customer is in India, the applicable India Utility rate will be used.
If your customer is in UAE country, Meta’s Utility rate for that destination country will apply.
So, there isn’t one global Service Message price.
The applicable amount depends on the customer’s country and Meta’s current rate card.
What about Utility Templates inside the 24-hour window?
This is an important part of the update.
Currently, Utility Templates sent while the 24-hour customer service window is open are free.
From October 1, 2026, these messages will become chargeable at the applicable Utility rate, even when the 24-hour window is open.
Example
A customer contacts your business:
10:00 AM: Customer sends a WhatsApp message.
The 24-hour customer service window opens.
2:00 PM: You send a Utility Template.
Currently:
The Utility Template sent inside the open 24-hour window is free.
From October 1, 2026:
The Utility Template will be charged at the applicable Utility rate.
This is separate from the 1,000 free Service Message allowance.
Does the 24-hour customer service window disappear?
No.
The 24-hour customer service window itself is not being removed.
Your business can still respond to customers during the open customer service window.
The change is about how Meta charges for certain messages sent during that window.
What about incoming WhatsApp messages?
There is no charge for customers sending messages to your business.
For example:
Customer → Business:
“Hi, I need help with my order.”
The incoming message itself is not charged.
The pricing change applies to messages sent by the business under Meta’s updated pricing rules.
What does this mean for Wabotick users?
Wabotick will follow Meta’s official WhatsApp Business Platform pricing.
This means:
Meta’s applicable charges will be calculated based on your WhatsApp usage and the customer’s destination country.
Wabotick does not decide these Meta message rates.
If Meta changes its rates or pricing rules in the future, the applicable Meta charges will be updated accordingly.
Will Wabotick charge extra for these messages?
The applicable WhatsApp/Meta messaging charges are based on Meta’s pricing.
Wabotick will follow Meta’s updated pricing structure and your applicable Meta charges will be reflected according to your actual usage.
Your Wabotick subscription/service charges, if applicable, are separate from Meta’s WhatsApp messaging charges.
